Diamonds Colour

One of the major elements in a diamond’s appearance is the colour. The colour refers to the natural slight yellow tints that occur in white diamonds. The most highly regarded white diamonds are completely or almost completely colourless, these are also the rarest and often most sought after. The grading scale for the colour starts at D being colourless through to Z which are light yellow in colour.

Near colourless diamonds will start to show hints of colour when compared to colourless diamonds, the further you go down the scale the more obvious this becomes. Depending on the metal used to set the diamond this can accentuate or de-emphasize the colour.

Colourless diamonds are rare in nature but even more scarce are coloured diamonds that can be found in shades of pink, blue, green, yellow, orange and the rarest of them all are red diamonds, these coloured diamonds are substantially more valuable than colourless white diamonds.
